    Quick answer

For a child aged 6 to 8, start with a mech or a battle pack (AED 89 to 149). For ages 8 to 12, a Mandalorian playset such as Boba Fett's Throne Room or the AT-ST Raider (AED 349) gives the most to build and play with. For adults, the 18+ helmets (from AED 299) and smaller display ships like Tantive IV (AED 269) are the best-looking shelf pieces.

LEGO Star Wars is one of the biggest LEGO themes, and the range is easier to shop once you know it splits into a few clear types. This guide explains each type, who it suits, and the sets we'd pick at every budget. All prices, piece counts and ages are from our current stock.

How do I choose the right LEGO Star Wars set?

Three questions narrow it down fast:

    1. Will it be played with or displayed? Play sets have moving parts and plenty of minifigures; 18+ sets are built for the shelf.
    2. Which era do they love? Most of our playsets come from The Mandalorian; the display ships and helmets cover the original films too.
    3. How long should the build take? Under 200 pieces is one sitting for most kids. Over 500 pieces is an afternoon or more.

What types of LEGO Star Wars sets are there?

Type What you get Typical age Our price range Best for
Polybags A small ship or scene, under 100 pieces 6+ AED 35 to 45 Party bags, first sets
Mechs and microfighters A posable mech or a small ship with a minifigure 6+ AED 89 to 109 Ages 6 to 8, small gifts
Battle packs A squad of minifigures with a small build 6+ to 7+ AED 129 to 179 Building an army
Playsets Ships and locations, mostly from The Mandalorian 7+ to 10+ AED 179 to 849 Ages 8 to 12, play
18+ display sets Helmets, dioramas and display ships 18+ AED 186.50 to 499 Adults, the shelf

What's the best LEGO Star Wars set for a 6 to 8 year old?

Something that builds in one sitting and can be played with straight away. Mechs are ideal: a single character in a posable suit.

Battle packs are the next step. The Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack (75372) is AED 129 (215 pieces, 7+) and the Snowtrooper Battle Pack (75320) is AED 149 (105 pieces, 6+). Buy two of the same pack if they want a bigger squad.

On a tight budget, the polybags are the cheapest way in: the AAT at AED 35, and the TIE Interceptor and U-Wing Fighter at AED 45 each.

Which LEGO Star Wars sets are best for ages 8 to 12?

This is where Star Wars playsets shine: bigger builds with moving parts, several minifigures and room for scenes. Most of our playsets come from The Mandalorian.

    Set Number Pieces Age Price
    Trouble on Tatooine 75299 276 7+ AED 179
    The Armorer's Mandalorian Forge 75319 258 8+ AED 199
    Dark Trooper Attack 75324 166 8+ AED 199
    Boba Fett's Starship 75312 593 9+ AED 232.08
    Boba Fett's Throne Room 75326 732 9+ AED 349
    AT-ST Raider 75254 540 8+ AED 349
    The Razor Crest 75292 1,023 10+ AED 849

Our picks: Boba Fett's Starship for the most pieces per dirham in this group, Boba Fett's Throne Room as the biggest location set, and The Razor Crest as the big "main gift" for a Mandalorian fan.

Which LEGO Star Wars sets are made for adults?

Sets rated 18+ are designed to be displayed rather than played with: cleaner shapes, more detail, and a build that takes an evening or two.

Brickmak tip: a helmet or display ship on a shelf near a window will fade in the UAE sun, and dust shows quickly on black and white bricks. Display them away from direct sunlight and dust with a soft brush. More in how to store cards and LEGO in the UAE heat.

Should I buy older LEGO Star Wars sets while they're available?

LEGO stops making every set eventually, and once a set is gone, sealed copies usually only get harder to find. If a set you want is in stock, don't wait too long. We explain how retirement works, and what to look for, in retiring LEGO sets. For new Star Wars releases, check our release calendar.

    Frequently asked questions

What age is LEGO Star Wars for?
Most sets are rated 6+ to 10+ and are made to be played with. Sets rated 18+, such as the helmets and the display ships, are built for adults to display. The age on the box describes how hard the build is, so a confident younger builder can often go a step up.
Which LEGO Star Wars sets are best for adults?
The 18+ helmets (The Mandalorian at AED 299, Boba Fett at AED 499) and the display ships Tantive IV (AED 269) and Home One Starcruiser (AED 186.50). They have a premium finish and are designed for the shelf.
What is the cheapest LEGO Star Wars set?
Our polybags start at AED 35 for the AAT, with the TIE Interceptor and U-Wing Fighter at AED 45. They're small builds, good for party bags or a first Star Wars set.
What's the difference between a battle pack and a playset?
A battle pack is mostly about the minifigures, with a small build to go with them, so it's the cheapest way to build up an army. A playset is a bigger build, such as a ship or a location, made for playing out scenes.
Are your LEGO Star Wars sets genuine and sealed?
Yes. Every set we sell is genuine LEGO and arrives factory sealed. Unopened sets can be returned within 14 days, and our courier collects them free.
